Blast fromt he Past Tastings

As a part of Aussie Wine Month, the Cellar Doors of Mount Benson are dusting off some of their oldies (but goodie). Asussie Wine Month- thie biggest annual celabration of Australian wine- runs over the month of may. During May Cape Jaffa, Ralph Fowler and Wangolina are participating in Aussie Wine Month by offering tastings (and purchase) of some of thier back vintage wines. There’s a dark horse in Mount Benson

Cape Jaffa Wines has just been named a 5 star winery in the 2014 James Halliday Wine Companion! This accolade credits the winery as an outstanding producer of very high quality wines. And as an added pat on the back the winery has been singled out as one of Ten Dark Horses; a special accolade for receiving 5 stars for the first time. ‘Achieving a 5 star rating is a fabulous endorsement of our efforts to make outstanding wines’ says Derek Hooper ‘It’s also great for boosting the profile of Mt Benson as a wine producing region. So you want to visit our region? Where can you go?

We have three cellar doors open in the region who are just waiting for you to pop in. Our Cellar Doors are generally open 10am to 5pm daily (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

All of the Cellar Doors are located on the Limestone Coast Road, 17kms south of Kingston S.E. or if you are based in Robe 27kms North (about a 20 minute drive).

The first cellar door you will encounter is Wangolina Station.  Not only do they have a good array of both red and white wines they also stock a bounty of regional produce. Their picturesque Cellar Door sits nestled among native gums and spacious lawns and is perfect for functions, garden parties, private or group tastings. Surrounded by wild grey kangaroos and a small flock of sheep, it’s a great rural setting to enjoy a glass of our award-winning wines. Picnic facilities are available. If you forget your own nibbles you’ll find the Cellar Door stocked with all sorts of local goodies including almonds, coffee, olive oils, jams, chutneys, chocolate and gourmet toffee.

Just a short drive down the Limestone Coast Road is Cape Jaffa Wines. Cape Jaffa Wines are the region's only accredited biodynamic winery.  Offering panoramic views from the from their rustic cellar door it is the perfect place to relax and linger over a glass of wine. Cape Jaffa's cellar door offers a selection of yummy local produce to accompany your wine tasting experience Select from Limestone Coast Cheese Co. cheeses, organic almonds, lobster pate (in season), shiraz chocolates, fig and olive crisps and other condiments or let them arrange a platter for you. You can relax on the verandah overlooking the Mount Benson hinterland or by the fire in the cooler months...the perfect way to spend the afternoon!

From the Cape Jaffa cellar door it is just a skip across the road to Ralph Fowler Wines.

The distinctive lyre trellis of Ralph Folwer Wines is indicative of the care taken by Ralph and Deb Folwer in the production of their wines.  Their Cellar Door facility is tucked away in the vineyard and offers an intimate look into artisan winemaking. Showcasing distinctive wines with a house style that is uniquely Ralph Fowler. Their wines have varietal expression and are reflective of the terrior not only of the region but of their vineyard.
