Innovation is at home in Mount Benson among various practices encompassing vineyard and natural resource management as well as new fermentation technologies. A number of vineyards utilise innovative trellising, irrigation and pruning techniques which maximises sun penetration in the canopy during the growing season to give peak fruit ripeness, minimise disease risk, minimise water use and increase water use efficiency.  In use around the region are the lyre trellis at Ralph Fowler Wines which spreads the canopy across two cordon wires increasing the light penetration into the vines and at Wangolina Station a mid-height sylvos  training system is used in Sauvignon Blanc to manage disease risk and increase light and air movement.  The region is also home to the first fully certified biodynamic vineyards on the Limestone Coast at Cape Jaffa Wines. Norfolk Rise Winery built in 2000 utilises fully automated Ganimede fermentation management technology which automatically perform operations in the winery to extract colour and tannin resulting in red wines with excellent structure.

The Mount Benson wine region is a region that is shaped by the passion and drive of youthful winemakers and viticulturalists. New ideas and great determination allow for the creation of exceptional wines that reflect the terrior on which the grapes are grown and the spirit of those that grow and make them.
